The center support in a 6R80 plays a critical role — it houses the intermediate clutch pack and the lower reverse piston, while the direct drum shaft passes through its core. From the factory, it’s made entirely of aluminum — and while lightweight, aluminum simply isn’t ideal as a bushing material.

In high-mileage or high-power transmissions, we’ve seen consistent galling and wear in this area, eventually leading to premature failure. That’s why we took the proven step to upgrade the part by machining back the aluminum and pressing in a precision-fit bronze bushing.

The result? A dramatically more durable center support that resists wear, scraping, and galling — even under high load, hard shifts, or extended abuse.
